Welcome!

SPAG would like to welcome the three new, talented members to our family!

Beverly Ward
Beverly had made her living predominantly as an actress. She has no formal training in the visual arts except "on-the-job." Bev works in acrylics, oils and recently began experimenting with wartercolor. Raised in San Diego, the city of one season, her eye is drawn to the ever changing textures of the New England landscape. In her paintings she seeks to evoke an atmosphere - or to recreate for the viewer the feeling of the time and place she painted.

Janet Coughenour
Janet is a lifelong Connecticut resident and presently a full-time artist living in Westport, CT. Her watercolors paintings and paper collages have been shown throughout Fairfield and New Haven Counties. She recently won "First Place" with collage "Tribal Joy" at the John Slade Ely House in New Haven, CT.

At five years old, Janet recalls making entire "chestnut families" out of shinny, mahogany horse chestnuts gathered on her walks in the woods. Using toothpicks and rich imagination, these "people" were carefully lined up on display for the enjoyment of her dog, Butchie. Her brightest Crayolas added windows and curtains to the inside of her favorite companion's doghouse. Creating and rearranging things began way back then.

Her art studies began with modeling at the Silvermine Guild and private sittings for local, accomplished artists learning from observation. Schooling included Housatonic CC, The Creative Arts Workshop, the Penland School of Crafts. Private study with Caesar Cirigliano, AWS and Carol Hubbard, also an American Watercolor Society painter.
